Bradford Cox is about to officially release the next installment in his Atlas Sound series: the now infamous Logos album. How can it be infamous before its release, you ask? (Because I know you were asking yourself that)
About a year ago, an early version of Lego album demos (some were placeholders) were accidently leaked by Mr. Cox, and then leaked by people that found his leak on MediaShare.
"I did not react well to the leak, in retrospect. It became the kind of internet-fueled drama that I was quickly learning to despise. I had always desired to speak through music, not blog posts and interviews, etc. I considered abandoning the project," Said Cox.
But he didn't. He continued wroking on the album, expanding it, and eventually bringing a lot of names you know in on the project: Noah Lennox (Animal Collective), Sasha Vine (Sian Alice Group), Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab) and Andy Ramsay (Stereolab).
He even went so far as to escape the bedroom tape approach to creating the music on Logos, working in more of a live setting.
"Almost everything you hear on the album is a first take. This makes it almost like a "live album" where a band sets up in a studio and just rolls tape. There are songs on here I don't even remember recording."
It's also a lot more meta, in a panoramic kind of way. Bradford looked in a lot more new places this time around, finding new influences and new ways of making music.
"My last album was a bedroom laptop type thing. Very introverted. Logos is an album that was recorded all over the world. It's not about me. There are collaborations with other musicians. The lyrics are not autobiographical. The view is a lot more panoramic and less close-up. I became bored with introspection."
Logos will be released on October 20th via Kranky. Tour dates are forthcoming.
