Rocky Votolato is set to release a new album titled True Devotion, a minimal and stripped down acoustic album. It's due out on Barsuk Records on February 23rd.
It will be the follow up to Makers (2006) and The Bragg and Cuss (2007).
Rocky faced an uphill battle with depression and anxiety since the release of The Brag and Cuss. He stopped touring, writing music, and being social. During that time, he got busy expanding his mind.
"Spending his time reading, studying existential philosophy, history, physics, and theology, he gradually overcame his demons. He began writing again, and through the making of the new album found some long sought-after understanding and peace of mind," reads his biography.
It seems to have had an imprint on his songwriting, as the new album is full of "dark psychology and social-critique," while also balancing a newer vision of enlightenment and hope. Maybe the sun is rising on a new day for Rocky Votolato? We'll find out in February.
