Swedish music streaming service Spotify has plans for a U.S. launch late this year or early 2010. It's been known as a highly popular European phenomenon until now (6 million euromembers) , but they're looking to cash in on an American audience.
They offer a mobile version for iPhone and Android for about $15 a month, have ad-supported streaming, and also offer a chance to buy the music that users are listening to. More importantly, they have the support of pretty much everyone in the music industry.
The bigger question is: how will this stack up againsy the new Google music streaming and the 800-pound gorilla of the American market, iTunes? Spotify is rabidly popular in Europe, and they're sure to make a big impact in the U.S. |
