4AD Launches Sessions: A 4AD Live Video Experience

It's like a broadcast channel for 4AD ... they've launched a new part of their web site called 4AD Sessions: it's a place that features a series of video recordings of live music from artists on the 4AD label. They're promising alternate versions of artists material, as well as covers, so don't expect to see a simple rehashing of album tracks. I guess this means that there's no future for Brtney Spears on 4AD, but there might not be too many people upset about that ...

You can watch it straight from the web site, or get the videos through a podcast. They've even created an embeddable player to spread the videos to other web sites.

They've launched the first session with Tune-Yards, the musical vehicle of Merrill Garbus. She and Nate Brenner are portrayed in a dramatically-lit studio, playing 5 of their songs live.

The video is big with good image and sound quality, but seemed to suffer through a stop-and-start download, causing the video to stop intermittently. It's early on in the service though, and video compression can take some time to perfect into the right combination of elements. I'm willing to give 4AD the assumption that they will continue to refine the delivery over time.
