Ninja Tune is spreading its reach with the launch of a new recording label.
The new label will be called Motion Audio, and will be run by Jason Swinscoe (from the jazz/electronica act Cinematic Orchestra). Ninja Tune will provide support, presumably through distribution and contacts.
"Motion Audio will be more about a vibe than any particular sound or style," said Swinscoe. "We want to surprise people, move people, make art. The only thing the records will share is heart."
Ninja Tune was started by DJs Matt Black and Jonathan More (Coldcut) in 1993 as an independent label with a distinct vibe, leaning towards electronic, drum and bass, nu jazz, chill and experimental hip hop. They've had imprints Ntone and Big Dada in the past, and although Motion Audio is not an imprint, it is another side arm for Ninja Tune.
They have two releases planned so far for 2010, from Grey Reverend and Lou Rhodes.
