Soundgarden will break free of the rusty cage of a 12 year hiatus to reform in 2010. Lead singer Chris Cornell made an announcement via Twitter, saying, “The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!” The message also appeared on the Soundgarden web site.
2009 saw many hints it would happen, from the Temple of the Dog reunion to the planned reissues of past Soundgarden material, in the now patented move of reunite/reissue/tour that we've seen many bands go through in recent years.
The band broke up due to creative tension and members moved in different musical directions, but swore they would never reunite or tour unless the decision was unanimous.
"When Soundgarden broke up, my discussions with the rest of the band was 'We have to have an agreement that we will never tour Soundgarden – Soundgarden will never exist – without it being a unanimous decision and that everyone who was in the band is in the band'," he said when Speaking to NME. |
