"It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you," reads the announcement on the Sparklehorse website.
Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse commited suicide on March 6th, ending a struggle with depression.
The first and classic Sparklehorse album Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot was released in 1995.
A year after that, Linkous ingested a combination of antidepressants and Valium and passed out, cutting off circulation to his legs for 14 hours. When paramedics tried to revive him, he suffered a heart attack and was clinically dead for two minutes. He went on to collaborate with Danger Mouse on Dark Night of the Soul (coming soon) and produced the Daniel Johnston’s album Fear Yourself in 2003.
Later Sparklehorse albums included Good Morning Spider, It's a Wonderful Life, and Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. |
