BLK JKS have a worldly sound that is enthralling and attention-grabbing at the same time, there's no way you can be in the same room as this music and not be consumed by it. They style themselves in the Psychedelic / Rock / Dub category, but they're just being modest.
They'll release a new EP titled Zol! on June 8th on Secretly Canadian.
The EP features a grassroots street anthem with a kwaito beat, as well as an answer to a street protest chant from the 1980's (the era of apartheid in their native South Africa).
They're also collaborating with world class DJ Tiesto on a track for a Smirnoff compilation titled Mashup Street.
Did I mention that the band is up for two South African Music Awards? |
