Australian electronic/experimental band PVT are set to bounce back this year with a new album titled Church With No Magic in June, coming from Warp Records. They've got a new song available online titled "The Quick Mile," and the video above for the song "Window".
They've also changed their name from Pivot to PVT. I guess Prince must have been a big influence on that. They were facing legal issues from another band named Pivot.
"It was frustrating and kind of ridiculous, but it became quickly obvious that it was a legal battle in the US we may not even win, and one we just couldn't afford to lose. So in the end, we weren't fazed by it," said band member Richard Pike when speaking to Resident Advisor. http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=12230
Pivot sounds interesting, catchy, fragmented, disjointed, and prone to tangents. That all adds up to a sound of diverse influences, while maintaining some kind of cohesiveness to the overall vehicle. The music curiously splits the divide between experimental, electronic, and indie rock leanings.
They're electronic like Auechre, but also sound organic like they use traditional instruments; they've even been compared to labelmates Battles. |
