It turns out that Arcade Fire played a small private gig at the Notman House in Montreal over the weekend as they ramp up for more shows and the release of their album The Suburbs this Summer.
Someone from Pop Montreal was there and was good enough to all of us to shoot video of the intimate show and put it online. The video is good, Arcade Fire sounded great, and the vibe looks delicious.
"Régine, Richard, Sarah and Will played with all the unrestrained joy they always have, wide-mouth singing. Tim and Jeremy were proud soldiers. Win looked older, sang better; he stared at us with a doomed gaze, weary and smoldering. Yet this is not the same band who made Funeral or Neon Bible; Arcade Fire seem sharper now, tighter. There are no drama club histrionics. They are not over-serious; they are simply serious. Their hooks and handclaps are underlined by noise, feedback, thundering four-axe attacks," reads an account from Said The Gramophone.
Their set consisted of twelve songs, eight new, and everyone seems mesmerized. Consequence of Sound has the set list.
It's been a few years since Arcade Fire have toured the U.S., and now they're ready to play a number of shows east of the Mississippi in August. It will almost be an Arcade Fire/Spoon tour, as they'll play together for a number of shows. Arcade Fire will donate $1 from every ticket to Partners In Health.
They're touring in support of their new album The Suburbs, due ot on August 3rd via Merge Records (nicely timed with the tour). The Suburbs was co-produced by Markus Dravs (Coldplay, Bjork). It will be the follow up to 2007's Neon Bible. It will be a CD and double-LP offering, and was recorded in Montreal and New York. This is Arcade Fire's third full-length studio album.
Two new Arcade Fire songs are making rounds on the Internet recently, with both "The Suburbs" and "Month of May," online now. Both songs are part of the upcoming Arcade Fire 12" single due out on June 1st.
