Indie troubadour Lou Barlow has just released a new digital-only EP with his new backing band the missingmen. The EP, interestingly titled = Sentridoh III, implies that this band can be thought of as a new version of Barlow's previous band Sentridoh.

You can get a free download of the song "Losercore", the first song released as a 7" single by Barlow when he broke off from Dinosaur Jr. This version of the song, however, is vastly different from the original. While the 1992 single has Lou's now famous lo-fi stylings, this version is crisp and polished, and perhaps most importantly, electric.

Lou Barlow's stray from his lo-fi roots isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it serves as a reinvention of a man who has rebuilt his musical identity numerous times throughout his career. The rearranged "Losercore" is definitely a stand out on the album, along with a cover of Skip James' delta-blues classic "I'm So Glad." There are also rocking re-recordings of "One Machine, One Long Fight" and "Gravitate" from 2009's Goodnight Unknown, but the only thing these songs have in common with their counterparts is the lyrics. With = Sentridoh III, Barlow is shining new light on his influences as well as his catalog.

Lou is taking a break from slapping the bass in the newly reunited Dinosaur Jr. to tour with the missingmen out West in support of = Sentridoh III, and just announced a second round of dates beginning August 18th on the East coast.
