Wolfmother and The Mars Volta should be shaking in their boots ... Black Mountain is coming to the forefront of the stoner-rock scene.

Their new album Wilderness Heart comes out on September 14th on Jagjaguwar Records, and has possibly the coolest and most intimidating album cover of 2010. Judging by the first advance track from the album, "Old Fangs," as well as a North American and European tour throughout the summer, they're definitely out to prove something.

The song is reminiscent of Black Mountain's previous records, cultivating the sounds of 70's rock, except there's something intangibly different from their past two releases -- a certain fervor they're bringing to Wilderness Heart. With "Old Fangs," the wall of guitars and laser keyboards set the scene for a layered, intricate, danceable song that conjures up thoughts of a more introspective Queens of the Stone Age.

Perhaps this came about when the band decided to use new producers Dave Sardy and Randall Dunn, but the finished product, at least for the one song preview we have gotten thus far, screams loudly with their distorted guitars that Black Mountain is finally coming into their own as a group, and has become a tent pole in their respective genre.
