Corin Tucker has now fully moved on from her Sleater-Kinney phase of her life into her new gig, The Corin Tucker Band. They're releasing a new album titled 1,000 Years on October 5th via Kill Rock Stars.
The album also feature contributions from Unwound's Sara Lund and the Golden Bears' Seth Lorinczi, who seem to be permanent parts of the band.
Most people thought it was only a matter of time before she released an album, and Corin says that she recieved a lot of encouragement.
"Everyone was saying, 'Oh, it'd be cool if you made a record'," Tucker recalls. "So I thought, Yeah! I should!"
It looks like we're getting a middle-aged look-at-life album, according to Corin. Riot Grrrl angst has been replaced by something more contemplative and nuanced.
"That's the artistic, itchy personality," Tucker says. "You're constantly trying to do something different."
"I don’t have the mentality that I’m going to change the world. I’ve enjoyed the movements I’ve been a part of – I think I did something for them, too. But now I’m more moderate in my career goals. I want to enjoy my life. I don’t have to turn it over to the machine."
1,000 Years will also feature songs that were in the running for the soundtrack of the film Twilight: New Moon. When they weren't picked up for the soundtrack, Corin decided to use them on the album.
“They didn’t work for the movie, but I kept them anyway. The themes work exactly. The monsters, beasts and demons, all those things working on you. I think there’s a lot of personal angst in that story,” she said.
