Foals are embarking on their first North American tour in support of their gorgeous new record, Total Life Forever. It begins September 23rd in Minneapolis, and includes stops in New York, Chicago, and the Austin City Limits festival. Tickets are on sale now.

Batman has the Bat Cave, Superman has the Fortress of Solitude, and Foals, apparently, have the "House of Supreme Mathematics": Their Oxford, UK headquarters where they have been plotting their return to the upper echelon of the indie music world ever since their debut record sparked a world of controversy.

When Foals' "Antidotes" was released in 2008, it sent the music journalism community into unabashed delirium. The album's reviews were all over the map - UK Webzine Drowned in Sound gave the record a 9/10, while the self-anointer of all things indie and musical curmudgeons Pitchfork gave the album a 5.9, citing that lead singer Yannis Philippakis was "indecipherable," and that their songs were "fussy, calculated, and impenetrable." This type of disparity really has boded well for the math-rockers, as they have avoided the sort of buzz that bands like Neon Indian or Animal Collective have received in recent years that seemingly fades quickly, and instead of releasing music prolifically, they instead decided to take two years off, away from the spotlight and quick praise of so many indie aficionados.

And so, in 2010, it seems that they've heard the critics, and returned with a great new album, Total Life Forever, which has been described by the group as sounding "like the dream of an eagle dying." Talk about trying your darndest to viewed as eccentric. In the meantime, though, enjoy one of the incredibly danceable tracks, "This Orient", from Foals' brand new album.
