Greg Dulli, the man responsible for the critically acclaimed Afghan Whigs and the Twilight Singers, is finally going on a long overdue solo tour, with a limited 14 date stateside run, as well as dates in Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and Belgium.
It is really a revelation to think that a tour such as this one, which begins October 8 in Greg’s adopted hometown of New Orleans, has never happened, especially when you take into consideration that this well-traveled indie rocker has been making music in some form or another for over two decades. But, maybe it is just a sign of the times, as Dulli has told Spin that he is finally at a very positive place in his life, “If you ask me how I’m doing right now,” he told interviewer Peter Gaston, “I would tell you that I am doing very well.” Up until this point, those words would sound entirely foreign coming from this ingenious songwriter, and that type of mentality is shining through onto his career.
Perhaps Dulli was just upset because he never got his just due. It is simply wrong that Greg Dulli probably will never be mentioned in the likes of Jeff Tweedy, Neil Young, or any other highly sought after artists of this generation, because he really is that great of a singer/songwriter, and an astoundingly prolific one at that.
The tour is going to feature music from the entire expanse of Dulli’s career, and will feature long time Twilight Singers guitarist Dave Rosser and Polyphonic Spree muli-instrumentalist Rick Nelson, which should provide for a stripped down sound, perfect for this special, limited date tour.
