Wrap the tentacles of your headphones around this: The Octopus Project will release a new album titled Hexadecagon on October 26 via Peek-A-Boo Records.
Citing influences like the minimalist ambient sounds of Steve Reich and Terry Reilly, the Octopus Project is taking a new spin on their sound.
Here's what the news release says about the new creativity "surrounding" their performance:
"... they arranged eight speakers in a circle around the audience, with the audience surrounding the band at the center, accompanied by eight synchronized video projections, designed by Austin digital artist Wiley Wiggins."
Then the band went on to play this set up at SXSW in what was called the biggest thing since, well, since the last time the Octopus Project performed.
Then the band got with producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Explosions In the Sky, Clinic, The Walkmen) to create the studio album. We can expect the high impact sonic assault and visual treatment for their upcoming tour, dates to arrive soon. |
