In addition to all of the craziness surrounding the U.S. launch of Mogwai's film Burning, they also plan to release a new as-of-yet untitled album next year.
"I think it's going to be an interesting record. Quite often, when we go into the studio our songs are nearly written. There's almost a tone of a song, but as the whole band, you haven't realized where it's going," guitarist Stuart Braithwaite told Spinner.
Mogwai is about to enter the studio, and is hoping to release the new album in early 2011. It will be the follow up release to their Hawk is Howling album in 2008.
Mogwai have announced a number of screening dates for their movie Burning. The film originally debuted at the Copenhagen Documentary festival late last year, and shows Mogwai in stark black and white footage, playing the explosive style of performance that Mogwai is known for. The footage was taken from a residency at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg in April 2009. Check out a video from the movie with the song "I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead."
The screenings are in August and September in various cities around North America.
Burning was directed by Vincent Moon and Nathanael Le Scouarnac of La Blogotheque (Take-Away Shows), and features the live album Special Moves in conjunction with the film.
Mogwai will release a Burning DVD on August 24th. It will also be available on CD and limited deluxe triple vinyl box set. The live recording and DVD will be released through Mogwai's own Rock Action label. The album art was created by Aidan Moffat, formerly of Arab Strap.
The band is giving away a free MP3 of the track "2 Rights Make 1 Wrong" from the live CD, plus you can hear the live version of Batcat on their MySpace. There's also a new free download of the song "New Paths to Helicon Pt. 1."
