Tired of compressed, cold-feeling music that comes from hacking up tracks digitally and spitting them out in a copy and paste approach? Helmet front man Page Hamilton hears you, and is catching on to the new vibe (which is really the revival of an old vibe) of live-recording songs in a studio to give them the energy and dynamic of performed music, rather than the sterile sound of overdubs.

“This album is human and honest. People have always commented that we sound like our albums live, and our recording approach has a lot to do with that.  Humans playing music will always be better than chop-shop rock.”

Spencer Krug took this approach with Wolf Parade's recent release Expo 86 and it turned out great.

Helmet is also releasing the album under it's own Work Song imprint label imprint. The album is titled Seeing Eye Dog and is due out in September.

“I just felt completely free to do whatever I wanted to do.It was really fun to make this record because I just felt this…freedom,” he said.

Helmet emerged in the 90's as an off-kilter, jazz influenced, deafening wall-of-sound band. They fused post-punk stylings with loud chords and lots of energy. They influenced bands like the Cows and labels like Amphetimine Reptile.
