Nick Cave and Co. are back at it again, releasing Grinderman 2 on September 14 in a variety of formats, including the new iTunes LP format. Grinderman will release the iTunes LP as a unique digital package with lyrics, non-LP tracks, remixes and even a collaboration with Robert Fripp. Beyond the no-doubt interesting collaboration with the former guitarist of King Crimson, there will be a collection of videos, including the sublimely-strange "Heathen Child" video which you can watch above.
Years ago, bands released special features on CDs to influence fans to buy the hard copies in the age of Napster, adding quirky packaging details that went beyond lyrics and credits. In the digital age, artists are betting on fans to buy digital copies through iTunes by adding extra perks.
For those interested in putting objects we called "CDs" and "Vinyl LPs" into machines to play music, Grinderman will also provide those on the same date.
