Outside-the-loop internationalists Thievery Corporation have just started a tour in support of their new best-of compilation, It Takes a Thief. It was released last week on their own ESL Music, and now Rob Garza and Eric Hilton are out touring with Massive Attack.

“We’ve always been a little hesitant of putting together a retrospective CD, but looking back and realizing it’s been almost 15 years since we started, we figured maybe now is the time. These tracks are some of our favorite moments,” said Rob Garza.

It Takes a Thief has some of Thievery Corporation's best songs on it, including "Lebanese Blonde" and "The Richest Man in Babylon."

They've been taking a break from touring while spending most of 2010 recording a new album.

Thievery Corporation went into the studio in the beginning of the year, with the idea that they would spend the entire year touring on and off and writing the new album. "This year we kind of marked for doing a lot of touring, so 2010 we have marked down as being a studio year," said Rob Garza when speaking to Billboard.

The band has no plan on the direction they'll take, though. They like to go into the studio without a clear idea or road map of what they'll do, since everything changes once you enter the studio.

"That's how all our records start. We always have ideas in the back of our minds, but once you start (recording) it's like some strange road trip; all of a sudden you wind up some place completely different. So there's no sense in trying to choose a direction; in the end the record kind of dictates what it's about rather than you."
