The 2011 Isle of Wight Festival has named its first headlining act for next year's festival: Kings of Leon. That's not all ... the festival is set to announce more acts this week, possible as early as tomorrow.
Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings said "We are proud to bring one of the world's biggest rock bands to the island on our tenth anniversary. It is an incredible way to start the weekend, I can't wait!"
The festival is set to happen on the weekend of June 10 - 12, on the Isle of Wight in the U.K. It will be the tenth anniversary of the festival. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, Nov 19.
Starting in the late 60's as a british catalyst to the new music scene, the Isle of Wight Festival quickly grew in 1969 when they landed Bob Dylan as a headliner. Big names like Joe Cocker, the Who, and Jimi Hendrix followed. By 1970, the festival brought in over half a million people and was widely regarded as the British Woodstock.
