Spencer Krug, the man who has also brought us music under the names Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, has launched yet another new project named Moonface. There's a new album titled "Organ Music not Vibraphone like I’d Hoped" due for release on Aug. 2 via Jagjaguwar Records and a tour is in the works. There's a new MP3 available for free, called "Fast Peter."

MP3: Moonface - " Fast Peter"

"Fast Peter" is the perfect sample of what the new Moonface sound is all about, a combination of droning, whirling double-manual organ sounds and Spencer Krug's affinity for writing a pop song.

"... One night, laying awake and thinking about music, I suddenly wanted to play an old double-manual organ – the kind from the 80s that you find in your grandmother’s basement. I would procure such an organ, hook it up to big whirling speakers and powerful amplifiers, and make a long, drone-filled, lush and noisy album of intense volume and beauty and poeticism," said Spencer when talking about what influenced his decision to do the Moonface project.

Before you think that this is all about creating church music, remember that this is Spencer Krug and he's into writing his vision into the context of a pop song.

"You see, I have a little dude who lives inside me that loves pop music, and he sometimes finds his way into my hands. When this happens, my fingers move toward the catchiest melodies they can, like bees to flowers with the most pollen. It can’t be helped."

As for now, there's a North American tour in the works for Moonface, that will be travelling around during July and August. Spencer's future plans are also wide-ranging, as he's looking forward to more new musical projects. Call him the Jack White of Jagjaguwar Records.

"With Moonface I hope to recreate that excitement repeatedly, with an ongoing series of collaborations which will tour and record like any other band, but which have set and finite life spans."

He'll also be recording with Siinai, a band from Helsinki, doing up some percussion recordings with Mike Bigelow, and looking for the next big Spencer Krug thing.

"After this year, who knows? But I think I will stay on a zig-zag path until I fall. "
