Always on the progressive tip, post-rock band Efterklang is offering their film An Islandas a deluxe DVD and "pay what you want" download. An Island is a joint film project between Efterklang and filmmaker Vincent Moon (known for his classic Takeway Show video work) that made a successful run of screenings earlier this year.
For the screenings of An Island, Efterklang and Vincent Moon devised a series of public-private screenings in which people were encouraged to do a grassroots effort of their own shows, and ended up over 1200 screenings of An Island. Check out the full world map here.
The film was a reinterpretation of the Efterklang album Magic Chairs, in which the band brought together over 200 musicians on "an island" off of the Danish coast, thus the name of the film.
The deluxe An Island DVD goes all out with eco-friendly, numbered, letterpress printed deluxe covers that not only use vegetable-based inks but also recycled paperboard. They'll be limited to a run of 5000 copies, so it's looking to be a collectors item. It also includes a new EfterklangEP of the band titled Live at the Roskilde Festival 2010. All in all, the package will ship in September of this year. It runs $40, and you'll get access to the download version as well.
