There's a new St. Vincent album coming, titled Strange Mercy on Sept. 12. St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) worked with producer John Congleton on the album and it will include11 songs; some of the titles include "Cruel", "Cheerleader", and "Surgeon." It will be her third full-length release.
Strange Mercy features appearances by Beck keyboardist Brian LeBarton; Bobby Sparks on mini Moog, clavinet, Arp and Wurlitzer; MacKenzie Smith (Midlake) on drums, Daniel Hart on violin, Evan Smith on woodwinds and Phil Palazzolo. That's a St. Vincent army.
Strange Mercy will see Annie Clark "redefining the idea of the guitar hero," as she uses the guitar to color the songs with various ideas like fuzz, "blizzards of notes" and generally leading the melody on the entire album. Annie has is also reportedly working with David Byrne on a project, although recording label 4AD declines to specify what that is.
Check out Annie Clark absolutely tearing the stage apart with her guitar, at the recent "Our Concert Could Be Your Life" show at New York's Bowery Ballroom in the video above. Also try a video of her TakeAway Show (from La Blogotheque) in which she plays live in Paris.
