Steve Reich has been forced to cancel his appearance at the upcoming Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Spain. Reich’s reason for cancelling is health issues, with a statement saying he is on a doctor-ordered hiatus from travelling.
He's scheduled to be the Sonar Festival’s main performer for opening night, performing with bcn216 and Synergy Vocals on “Double Sextet” and “Music for 18 musicians,” both works created by Steve Reich. Carles Santos will fill in for him on the performance. Spain's Sonar Festival in Barcelona has added a lot of acts to the 2011 Sonar lineup over the past few months, including the reemerging Aphex Twin, Trentemøller, Toro Y Moi, Frick, Tiger & Woods and The Human League(!) Check out the complete lineup.
Sónar is Spain's mashup of music and film and video, all rolled into one big multimedia festival. The dates for the 2011 Sónar are June 16 - 18, in both Barcelona and A Coruña, Spain. You get installation art, audiovisual concerts, and medialab presentations next to DJ sets, electronic music, film and more. It's the new media jet set in the heart of Europe.
Sonar tickets are still on sale, ranging from 45€ to 75€, and include anything from a single-day pass to a pass for the entire festival.
Last year's Sónar Festival decided to split and double down with two locations, a first for the Spanish music and art festival. In addition to its regular home of Barcelona, it added a new location in A Coruña, which played host to Sónar Galicia.
