The tale of Napster is about to be told in a new new Napster movie that's just starting to get off of the ground. It's about Napster founder Sean Parker and tells the tale about how the Napster music download service caused an uproar in the late 90's, paving the way for iTunes then and MOG, Spotify, Rdio and others. Founder Sean Parker is part of the movie's story as well.
Alex Winter will direct the Napster movie, who you may remember as Bill and the Bill and Ted movies from way, way back.
“The rise and fall of Napster and the birth of peer-to-peer file-sharing technology created by Shawn Fanning when he was a college student, changed music to movies, and made possible everything from Julian Assange, WikiLeaks to the iPod and Facebook,” Alex Winter told Deadline New York when speaking about the Napster film.
The Napster movie is tipped to have guest appearances, although it's unconfirmed at this point who will be included. Lars Ulrich of Metallica seems like a prime suspect, given his famous opposition to Napster back and subsequent change of opinion as time wore on. Who would you like to see in the Napster movie?
