Chalk up another musical victory for Craigslist's Craig Nuemark. He can claim to to be the (indirect) connection node that's partly responsible for the band Cymbals Eat Guitars. Joseph D'Agostino and Matthew Miller started the band originally, but used Craigslist to find new band members. They went on to work through some serious 90's alt influences like arty kind of bands to come up with a Cymbals Eat Guitars sound.
MP3: Cymbals Eat Guitars - Rifle Eyesight (Proper Name)
"At its core, lenses alien is a marriage of classic pop forms and ambient haze that makes for a stark, dusky psychedelia. Joseph D’Agostino’s vocals, now with support from keyboardist Brian Hamilton and bassist Matthew Whipple, sit daringly at the forefront, and his lyrics are dark, strange, and affecting as ever," reads the description from the bands label, Barsuk Records.
Imagine a more serious Pavement that flirts with punk oblivion and you start to sketch out the band's sound. They rely heavily on guitars (so obviously the cymbals have gone hungy) for their sound, but work through some noisey and even kind of angst-ish kind of involvement on their new song "Rifle Eyesight." It's part of their new album Lenses Alien due out on Aug 30 via Barsuk Records.
