The new Mogwai EP Earth Division isn't just about new songs, it's also about a new direction. The long-sustained approach of loud-quiet-loud-quiet with a hard edge has passed in favor of a new approach that broadens Mogwai's wings. Before the Mogwai nation freaks out over the prospect of losing all that they consider holy about the current Mogwai sound, be aware that this is in addition to the band's previous sound, not completely in place of it.
"... highlighting a creative departure from the band’s trademark cinematic mantra of pulverizing, scorched guitar riffage, into a more recontextualised domain of hazy electronic distortion, accompanied by spiky wafts of violins, violas, cellos and double bass and jagged keys," reads the press release announcing Earth Division.
