John Cale’s Extra Playful EP Arrives This Week

John Cale is releasing an EP this week titled Extra Playful, available on heavyweight 12” vinyl and download via Domino Records. Extra Playful is intended to showcase John Cale as a master producer, songwriter and orchestrator. Poetic lyrics border on playful, avant-garde turns to pop music, and experimental proto-punk becomes accessible.

So how did it turn out? Check out the video for 'Whaddya Mean By That' above ... there's a distinct Americana vibe, albeit in a slightly warped way. Slight psychedelics figure into the traditional pop song structure, and even a small does of (almost) country music. The temperament of age.
