The story from the latest study of iTunes downloads from the iTunes Store? Apps are up, music is down. In 2010, 82% of iTunes downloads were for music and 31% apps; so far in 2011, 75% of iTunes downloads were for music, while 39% purchased apps. iTunes video purchases went from 20% in 2010 to 19% this year. iTunes added one million new purchasers this year. As far as the iPad nation goes, they seem to more busy with apps and games than they are with music and video.

Check out more about steaming music sites in the Spacelab Streaming Music Guide.

The information came from the NPD Group's "iTunes User Report 2011." It seems that the growth in streaming music services like Pandora, Spotify, Rdio and MOG are slowly making a dent in in downloads, although a decline of 7% might come more from tough economic times than from streaming.

What do you think? Is streaming music killing iTunes downloads or music buying?
