The Decemberists will release an EP of material that was recorded at the same time as their The King Is Dead album, a six-track acoustic affair titled Long Live the King. The EP will be released on Nov. 1 via Capitol Records. It even keeps the west coast inter-generational vibe alive with a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Row Jimmy."

What else has been Colin Meloy been doing? Well, he recently released a book with his wife called Wildwood. That so sounds like the title of a book the that Colin Meloy would write. It's a full extension of the Colin Meloy brand, even if there isn't a "Colin Meloy brand." Wildwood is a book about walking in the woods. It's an adventure book.

"I wanted to take a moment and personally alert you to the thing that will be consuming my days and evenings in the forthcoming months: namely, a book that Carson Ellis, Illustratrix and Decemberists Art-Slave, and I have been cooking up for nigh on 12 years. That book is called WILDWOOD," said Colin in a statement.
