The South by Southwest Music Festival has announced its initial 2012 lineup, and it includes Motopony, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, VHS or Beta, Thee Oh Sees, We Barbarians, Say Hi and Com Truise. Check out what is a complete listing (so far) of the SXSW 2012 lineup. Once the domain of up and coming bands, the South by Southwest Music Festival has turned into a place where semi-established bands also play to get exposure in a more crowded music industry. It's one of the first major indie rock festivals of the year, a week of shows, discussion panels, schmoozing, new bands, schmoozing, drunkeness while trying to schmooze, etc.
Registration for SXSW 2012 tickets is open, and badges come in individual or grouped for different conference segments: Platinum gives you access to Music + Film + Interactive, Gold is access to only Film + Interactive. There's even still time for bands to submit their SXSW bid to play, the deadline in Nov. 4.
The South by Southwest Music Festival 2012 dates are March 14-18 in Austin, Texas. The entire SXSW experience will go from March 9th-18th, and includes SXSW Interactive and SXSW Film. Some of the SXSW Panels were recently announced and chosen by a semi-crowd sourced process, in which the panel picker online tool was used for people to submit and vote on ideas, then an advisory board selected the final panels. Some of the panels for next year include names like "Music in Mobile, Tablets and Laptops: What's Next?," "What Happened to the Big Idea in Music Technology?" and "It Takes a Village to Break an Artist."
