Deadmau5 has come down to Earth in the new Radiohead cover of the song “Codex” off of the album The King of Limbs. The song is instrumental, and it kind of deviates from anything you might hear on the Deadmau5 tour live show due to the fact that it's introspective and dark, as opposed to the bright bleeps and popping of most of Deadmau5's music. What's going on inside that Deadmau5 head? Still, it's moving, in an almost orchestral way. Slow and ambient, the Deadmau5 version of “Codex” is a new turn to his sound. He's had people do vocals before, most notably with Sofi on classic Deadmau5 songs like “Raise Your Weapon,” so I have to wonder if there's room for a Thom Yorke vocal track in the future, since Yorke is so into electronic music.
The song “Aural Psynapse” went online last week and you can listen to it here. The “Meowingtons Hax Live From Toronto” DVD due out on Jan. 24, and will feature a lot of Deadmau5 tour footage from an epic and bright live show ... check out video of his performance at last year's Ultra Music Festival as an example.
