Jonsi has been working with Cameron Crowe to soundtrack the upcoming We Bought A Zoo movie, a film that includes co-stars Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson. Today a new collaboration between Jonsi and Cameron Crowe hits the web with the track “Gathering Stories.” You can also check out the We Bought A Zoo trailer above.
NPR Music says that "Even before filming for the movie began, Crowe used Sigur Rós' music as inspiration for the cast and crew, and finally, on the last day of filming, asked Jónsi to write music for the film. Not only did Jónsi agree, but in addition to writing first movie score, also contributed two new songs, one of which he co-wrote with Crowe."
STREAM: Jonsi and Cameron Crowe - “Gathering Stories”
Jonsi is no stranger to film scores ... he's worked on music that made its way to The Life Aquatic, How to Train Your Dragon and 127 Hours, and even worked with Cameron Crowe before when Sigur Ros classics “Svefn-G-Englar,” “Agaetis Byrjun” and “The Nothing Song” were used in the film Vanilla Sky. And Sigur Ros music has been all over TV and film scores.
Cameron Crowe sounds like a gushing fan, telling The Playlist “Sigur Rós is one of the great bands to know this simple fact — the best music creates a movie in your mind. Making Vanilla Sky, we played Sigur Rós constantly. It inspired us and gave us grooves that became part of the DNA of our own movie. But that’s just us. Play Sigur Rós yourself. In every sound and song, they will reach deep into your soul. Sigur Ros is some of the best filmmaking you’ll ever hear.” Props.
Other music on tap for We Bought a Zoo? The Playlist reports that Neil Young and Eddie Vedder are in, and Cat Stevens might even make the final cut.
