The dynamic duo of Underworld (Rick Smith and Karl Hyde) will be the music directors or the 2012 Olympics in London, England. The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG, nice “crazy” acronym -- “yo, we’re loco, G!”) made the announcement today, citing Underworld's past collaboration with British filmmaker/producer Danny Boyle in the films Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach and Sunshine. Together, Underworld and Danny Boyle will work to create the opening ceremony music and production. "Danny asked us to take responsibility for every aspect of the sound and music and encouraged us to draw on a wide musical palette. It was a challenging piece of work with its roots in classic literature, that turned out to be the most fun I've ever had," said Rick Smith. Karl Hyde added "We want to leave people with a musical memory of the show rather than a purely visual one."
