The 2012 Isle of Wight Festival has just named Pearl Jam as its Saturday Night headlining act, adding to the previously named Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band as the Sunday headliner. Isle of Wight tickets are currently on sale for £160.00, £160.00 if you include camping. The Pearl Jam tour iis just ramping up, more dates are likely to be announced. The Pearl Jam Twenty DVD is out floating around right now, as a defining chronicle of how the band formed in the wake of Mother Love Bone and went on to be the epic epicness now known as Pearl Jam.
Isle of Wight dates are June 22 - 24. Starting out in the late 60's as a british catalyst to the new music scene, the Isle of Wight Festival quickly grew in 1969 when they landed Bob Dylan as a headliner. Big names like Joe Cocker, the Who, and Jimi Hendrix followed. By 1970, the festival brought in over half a million people and was widely regarded as the British Woodstock, which was great, but the festival was a little out of control in terms of drugs and fighting. So much so that the British Parliament passed the Isle of Wight Act in 1970 banning all of festivals on that Island. The festival eventually made a comeback in 2002.
