of Montreal are back with e new album titled Paralytic Stalks, due on Polyvinyl Records on Feb. 7. The talk from the record label is that Paralytic Stalks will have the same "personal confessions" style lyrics that colored Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? "Paralytic Stalks may be some of Barnes' darkest material to date, touching on topics such as self-hatred, revenge, human existence, his relationship with wife Nina, and others that illustrate an emotionally raw character," reads the statement from Polyvinyl. Check out the song "Wintered Debts" above for a sample of the music and the blunt coffessional lyrical style. If you click through to Soundcloud, you can download a MP3 version of the song. Paralytic Stalks is available for preorder now .
Paralytic Stalks was recorded at Kevin Barnes home studio in Athens, GA, before moving the effort to Chase Park Transduction and brought in Drew Vandenburg. Other influence on Paralytic Stalks include influences include modern classical, neo-prog, pseudo-country, and 60's pop.
