Google and YouTube have created a new film festival called Your Film Festival, for independent film makers as a sort YouTube film festival for the rest of us. It gives you an opportunity to gain visibility on Youtube, the Google+ social network, the Movie Store on the Android Market, YouTube video rental ... and even the Venice Film Festival.
Here's the announcement, to go with the YouTube video above: "15 minutes to tell a story. Millions of people to watch it. $500,000 to make a new one for the world to see. This is Your Film Festival."
The YouTube Film Festival opens for submissions on Feb. 2 (this Thursday) and closes on Mar. 31. They'll pick 50 movies for the web to vote on, and the top ten will go on to the Venice Film Festival. From there, one winner will be given a $500,000 grant for a new movie, which will be produced by Ridley Scott. You'll need to have a YouTube Channel to enter, so if you don't have a YouTube Account yet, you'll need to open one to submit your movie. Google is doing something similar but different with Google Magnified, a way to highlight music acts via the Artist Hub on the Android Market. Now they're carrying through another idea for independent film makers with Your Film Festival.
The Your Film Festival is also bound to help you gain traction on the Google+ social network, as well as gain subscribers for your YouTube Channel, as well as YouTube video rentals and the movie section on the Android Market. Don't forget the king daddy of Google items: better placement in a Google search. All of which will add up to more views for your YouTube movies and videos, which is what gaining awareness is all about as an independent film maker. But you already know that, don't you?
