Android mobile users will be glad to know that a new Rdio Android App has been launched, for both Android phones and Android tablet users, although based in the screen captures it looks like an Android phone app that can also be used on an Android tablet.
The Rdio Android app is fully Android 4.0, and new additions include better uses of Android's Ice Cream Sandwich capabilities, like a remote control to manage playback controls via the lock screen; better search for Radio playlists, people and albums/songs; improved navigation for more ease of use; better interaction between Rdio user profiles. Even Rdio is upping the social interaction, a must have in a streaming music service these days.
The "Heavy Rotation" feature shows what people in your network are listening to, so you can get recommendations from people in your social circle, whether you're looking for songs or Rdio playlists. It's available now at the Android Market as a free app. Most of what's here isn't really breaking new ground, it's more of a catch-up to standard offerings from other streaming music sites like Spotify, Mog and Rhapsody, who just launched a new Rhapsody Android app this week. It's compatible with all the subscription plans: Rdio Unlimited, Rdio Unlimited Family and Rdio Web. Other highlights from the new Rdio Android app:
- Streamlined navigation
- Easy findability for current new releases
- Improved search
- Upgraded offline sync (although user reviews suggest some initial launch issues)
