Deconstructing Pop Music and The Velvet Underground with Fenster

By: Christopher Levine, author of "Eclectiblogs-Weekly Meanderings for Music Head Consumption" available on paperback at Lulu.com
February 13, 2012

Let's set the scene...it is the summertime, and you are alone in a swimming pool in the middle of the day. The water is a clear turquoise visually, and the permeating scent is somewhere in between suntan lotion and chlorine. Your hair is actually still warm and dry from not having totally submerged- until now- as you have made the split second decision to ease down under the water until you are completely below the surface. Now, listen...do you hear it? Can you hear the magically distorted sounds of the air above of and it's atmospheric activities creating a natural symphony, filtered though your aquatic haze?

If you can, you will have just experienced a taste of the new album by Fenster. Their Velvet Underground influence is there, (ultimately how could it not be with their members being from New York City and Berlin, I mean, come on!) but their creative personal license is valid. Let's say that they are more of a Velvet Underwater, if you know what I mean. Fenster's new release "Bones" is a scrapbook of articles, objects, and transparencies rolled together into a single object of art which was solely created for you to not just listen to, but experience.

You can also catch them on the road. Note their schedule below, including a stint at SXSW. Oh, and before I forget, you can come back up for air now.
