There's an iTunes Store update coming this year, one that would update the app with a redesign and allow for better use of the in the cloud iTunes Match service that uses iCloud. The report comes from 9to5Mac, who said "Apple is preparing its first iTunes Store redesign in nearly three years.
"The new design is said to be even simpler and more user-friendly than the current design. Apple is working on ways to enhance the speed and efficiency of finding new content, such as songs, videos, and applications. The cornerstone element of Apple’s new iTunes Store is interactivity. As Apple vaguely explained to a number of music labels and entertainment partners, Apple is looking to make the iTunes Store a much more engaging experience," reads the news from 9to5Mac.
The iTunes update is crucial to compete with streaming music sites like Spotify, MOG, Rdio and Rhapsody and bring iTunes into a more modern existence. The software is notoriously bloated, and bogs down a computer when it's in use. The iPad 3 release is imminent and the iPhone 5 release is rumored to happen this Fall. This would give Apple a fresh chance to bring Siri and iCloud into the fold with a new iTunes update and iTunes match capabilities. The redesign should affect the iTunes App Store as well.
