iPad 3 Release Dates Nears as iPad HD Rumors Build on Apple TV (UPDATED)

Now that we're right on top of the iPad 3 release date for 2012 comes the growing rumor that it's actually going to be called the iPad HD. Reports in VentureBeat and 9to5Mac talk of the iPad3 release actually being called the iPad HD, focusing on video and Apple TV.  MacRumors  talks about Apple TV stocks slipping in stores showing signs of something happening in advance of the iPad HD or iPad 3 release announcement tomorrow in San Francisco. The iPad 3 release date seems increasingly likely to be March 16.

UPDATE: 9to5Mac has just posted that the iPad 3 release date will be March 16, with Apple Store events planned: "We’ve been told by an Apple Store source who has been reliable in the past that preparations are being made for a big Apple Store event which will culminate on Friday, March 16th.  Naturally, this points to an iPad 3 launch on the Friday just nine days after tomorrow’s announcement. " This is the first credible rumor for the iPad 3 release date that's happened so far.

"Apple’s next-generation iPad will be called the iPad HD, not the iPad 3, a reliable source tells VentureBeat. Additionally, we’re hearing that Apple is now buying 7.1-inch screen components in preparation for a smaller iPad release later this year," reads the iPad 3 news report in Venture Beat. This also builds on the growing rumor of a smaller iPad Mini (or whatever that one will be called) to be launched later this year. Remember the supposed iPhone 5 from last year that actually was an iPhone 4s? Does Apple do this intentionally to toy with us?

"According to both CNET and VentureBeat, Apple’s new iPad won’t be officially called “iPad 3,” but rather “iPad HD.” The “HD” suffix is a nod to the new iPad biggest upgrade: the high-definition Retina Display. The Verge reported last year that the new iPad would be called the “iPad HD,” so it’s worth taking a look at their surrounding iPad HD rumors from last year," reads the iPad 3 news report from 9to5Mac. Gizmodo talked about this as well.

MacRumors is talking about the Apple TV issue as growing evidence that something in line with a revamped Apple TV is due for mention at the iPad 3 /iPad HD announcement tomorrow. "Last week, we noted that shortages of the Apple TV at third-party retailers had begun spreading to Apple itself, with a number of the company's own retail stores reporting that the set-top box was unavailable for immediate in-store pickup. With a part number for a product with the code name of "J33" and known to be the next-generation Apple TV also surfacing last week, it certainly appears that an update is imminent."

Apple is rumored to be pitching an Apple TV streaming service for launch by Christmas, according to a New York Post article. The Apple TV streaming media service that includes iTunes is rumored to be mentioned with the iPad 3 release on March 7th. Any Apple TV update for 2012 could be mentioned tomorrow with a release date of later this year still being possible. Mostly it’s been Apple TV rumors until now, but tomorrow might shape up rumors into reality.

iPad 3 features right now include a rumor of Retina Display for HD video (thus the iPad HD name) and enhancements for iTunes Match, iCloud and Siri. It’s easy to see how iCloud and iTunes will include advanced streaming media options to accommodate the issue of how to mange HD video in an iCloud environment, plus iPAD HD movies bought from iTunes will now have to offer HD video as an option.  iPad 3 specs  have rumors of including 4G LTE wireless capabilities with Verizon and AT&T, which clearly seems to excite the online chatter as an emerging trend that will help redefine any iPad HD or iPad 3 release.
