REVIEW: The Walkmen - “Heaven”

To the band that dared cover Nilsson's Pussycats album in its entirety, I say, "Hello there. Whatcha got cooking?" The bun they have in their collective oven is a new album, titled Heaven (due 6/5 via Fat Possum), that aims for the arena anthem heights of U2 and Arcade Fire. Hell, they even covered and posted a medley of hits by Bono's gang back in March. All this amounts to is a FLASHING NEON SIGNAL that The Walkmen want to be as huge as their heroes and peers.

The title track to the upcoming LP is big 80s jangle and pleading vocals. Fans of this brand of rock will rejoice, but to my ears this isn't one of the better songs I've heard lately. Its uptempo and gets yer head boppin' just fine however and this band has earned a certain right to do whatever the hell they want to. I'm on the fence about this track, but don't let my ambivalence sway ya, give it a listen now!
