The Squarepusher tour for his new album Ufabulum was announced today, with an update from the previous announcement that moves across the U.S. and Europe for the rest of the year. “I’ve started thinking about pure electronic music again. Something very melodic, very aggressive” said Tom Jenkinson, a.k.a. Squarepusher about the release. The entire Squarepusher tour was ‘conceived, written, designed and played’ to be played live live by Tom Jenkinson.
Spacelab writer Jeff Daily recently reviewed the Squarepusher song “Drax 2” and said “The schizo glitch completely NON human track is from his forthcoming album titled Ufabulum (May 15th - Warp). This piece will melt yr mind's eye. Like Philip K. Dick compressed into seven plus minutes of constantly jamping slanging kreeeching anti-organic sounds,” which pretty much sums up Ufabulum. Get up, get down and get ready for something that will catch you off guard and blow you away.
So what the action and visual show be like on the Squarepusher tour? Listen to Tom set the record straight: "For a while I had apocalyptic nightmares about trails of nuclear missiles in the night sky. So I aimed to recreate that strange combination of exhilaration, terror and sadness both visually and emotionally through this piece. It lead to the idea of a spacecraft leaving earth at vast speed to escape, but oddly the music also made me think of it flying through a library. So I generated the visual aspect such that, as the piece progresses, it seems as if the viewer is ever accelerating through massive corridors of books."
