Norwegian indie pop songwriter Sondre Lerche is celebrating his 30th birthday with good news: 1) he's going on tour and 2) he's releasing a live album called Bootlegs on Sept. 4. There's more ... Mona Records will reissue Sondre's first four albums - Faces Down, Two Way Monologue, Duper Sessions and Phantom Punch with bonus tracks and out takes.
"For 12 years I've had to endure the constant disappointment of hearing professional multi-track live recordings of my shows. Recordings that appeared to have little or nothing to do with the experience I enjoy so much up on stage. No matter how professionally recorded, mixed and treated - live recordings seemed chronically incapable of doing justice to the chaotic intensity of simply being there," said Sondre about the vibe.
Anyone who remembers the days of sneaking in an analog tape recorder into a show to get a bootleg recording will love the intensity of Bootlegs.
"This was the first time I had actually felt excited upon hearing a recording of one of my shows. For once the recording felt more inspired than the actual performance had felt at the time. Only now do I realize that it's raw as f@*k. Completely out of balance. There's no separation, only two tracks: one is the board, the other is the room. The crowd is enthusiastic but easily distracted and rowdy; it's a Saturday night in Norway. This is as close to the feeling of actually being up on stage as I'll ever get on a record."
So that's the deal with Bootlegs, but there's no word on whether recording devices will be allowed on the the tour in September. Does anyone know if it's allowed? Say something in the comments. If anyone in the Sondre camp reads this: why not turn the tour into a bootlegging free for all? Let people record and put the shows online!
