|The new Antibalas song "Dirty Money,” off of their self-titled album, due out on Aug. 7 via Daptone Records. The Brooklyn-based afrobeat all stars have a super-charged sound full of energy for the get up and go track to supercharge your Tuesday. The new album is the follow up their 2007 Antibalas album Security. Also included here is the song "Sare Kon Kon" (Redux).
“Musically, it’s our best playing as a band,” says trumpeter Jordan McLean. “We’re having more fun together, we’re all breathing in sync, the structures of the compositions and the overall sound are tighter, and the band is sounding better than ever.” Citing influences like Fela Kuti and Africa 70, Antibalas brings a heady mix of afrobeat tribalism to a global and worldly mix of jazz, horns, latin, funk and more. Their name means "bulletproof" in Spanish, they're from New York, and they do Afrobeat. If that's not globalism in the international age, I don't know what is. Check out the Antibalas tour starting in August, it includes stops at the Pop Montreal Festival and Austin City Limits.
