| Last year, Underworld was named music directors of the 2012 Olympics in London. They're working with Danny Boyle on the music, and after the Olympic opening ceremonies, Underworld will release the music as a complete package on iTunes called Isle of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The release date for CD/vinyl is Aug, 6. This also dovetails with the opposite release, A Symphony of British Music - Music for the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. It has a digital release date of Aug. 12.
The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games asked Underworld to be the music directors for the 2012 Olympics last year, working with Danny Boyle as the had in the past on films like Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, Sunshine and The Beach. "Danny asked us to take responsibility for every aspect of the sound and music and encouraged us to draw on a wide musical palette. It was a challenging piece of work with its roots in classic literature, that turned out to be the most fun I've ever had," said Rick Smith.
