Elbow are giving the gift of a side-release with a new EP called the Dead In the Boot - The B Sides Collection. It offers a number of songs (NOT outtakes, they say) that are extensions of the Elbow vibe, the product of late-night sessions or just extensions of the Elbow mystique that happened in creative bursts.

"The band has always loved B-side land and this is a collection of our favourites. None of our B-sides are album rejects. It's a different space, usually just post finishing an album when all the members of Elbow are chiming and feeling very creative. This gives 'Dead In the Boot' a real late night vibe," said Guy Garvey in a statement.

Dead In the Boot will include 13 songs of Elbow goodness with a release date of Aug. 27 in the UK, no North American date is known yet. In the Internet release craziness that has emerged as a post-post-post-post-modern stance of the traditional album release, these kind of side release can often times be the most interesting in a band's repetoire.

"It was important to us that this collection be an album in its own right so for some fans it may seem like there are glaring omissions, but these songs are the ones that hung together perfectly."
