Merge Records has signed two new acts this week: William Tyler and the garage punk sounds of Reigning Sound. Both will release new full length albums on Merge next year and will make their live debut for the label at the CMJ Marathon next month in New York, playing at the Mercury Lounge.
"William Tyler has long been associated with Merge through his lengthy career as multi-instrumentalist in Lambchop. His 2011 debut solo album was described by Pitchfork as “arguably the most vital, energized album by an American solo guitarist in a decade or more. Reigning Sound was formed in 2001 by Memphis garage-punk legend Greg Cartwright, who is also known for his bands The Compulsive Gamblers and The Oblivians," said the label about the signings. |
