Ben Gibbard is releasing his first solo album Former Lives later this month, and today he's debuting another song with "Something's Rattling (Cowpoke)." It's a jangly acoustic vibe with backing vocals. He's touring a lot in November, and will play select cities in the US. The music on Former Lives comes from various songs he's written over time, compiled as a full-length that he worked on with Aaron Espinoza from Earlimart. "They're a side story, not a new chapter," he said.
"I’m a songwriter and that’s my job, and with every record that we’ve made there would always be a couple of tunes that just didn’t seem to fit in with the band. If people wanted to be dismissive of the record, they could just say “Oh these are leftovers,” but they’re really not," he told Stereogum in a recent interview. Mr. Gibbard is an odds-on favorite for an appearance at the Noise Pop Music Festival this year, although nothing has been announced at this point.
